BONEY M, Mini biography
61Boney M. is a pop group
created by West German producer Frank Farian, whose heyday was the late
'70s. Was one of the few
Western groups at that time (ABBA got one of them) that have become
popular in regions like Africa, Arab countries, Iran, Southeast Asia,
Eastern Europe.
Original members of the
band were Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Bobby Farrell Maize Williams.
Historical
Frank Farian (Franz
Reuther), German singer of popular song, dissatisfied with the songs
they sing in December 1974 recorded a single Baby Do You Want to Bump?. The song is broadcast as
interpreted by Boney M, and becomes a success in Holland and Belgium. Farian decided to hire a
band that would become the group picture in TV appearances and
performances. A rental agency finds on
Maize Williams (in Montserrat) and her Jamaican friend Sheyla Bonnick
and a dancer Mike. In 1975 another daughter,
Nathalie, joined, then replaced with Claudja Barry. Sheila and Mike go, and
Maize Williams brings an exotic dancer from Aruba, Bobby Farrell. Jamaican singer Marcia
Barrett's joining the group, which still suffer a change when Claudja
Barry tired to play back, leaving the group in February 1976 to pursue a
solo career. Finally, Liz Mitchell,
the former singer of the band Les Humphries Singers, join, composition
became Maize Williams, Marcia Barrett, Liz Mitchell and Bobby Farrell.
